Filmmaker Melissa Skirboll to be Featured at the Long Island Intl Film Expo (LIIFE) Filmmakers Connection Meeting

Writer/Director/Producer/Playwright to Speak on her Experience in the Craft

New York, NY (April, 2020) – On Monday, April 27th, 2020 beginning at 7 pm EST, Melissa Skirboll, the award winning director, writer, actor and producer in both stage and screen, will be the featured speaker at the Long Island Intl Film Expo (LIIFE) Online Filmmakers Connection Meeting.

Currently in post-production with her fourth short, “Greetings From Sarajevo”, Melissa’s first three films have been official selections in 63 festivals around the world and have garnered 15 awards and 48 nominations thus far. Her film “My Dinner With Schwartzey” screened at LIIFE in 2019 and won best cinematography and best editing at the Festival.

This weekly series has previously featured Filmmakers Manny and Lindsay Serrano, Jeremiah Kipp, and Elias Plagianos; with more sessions planned for May and beyond leading up to the Festival in July!

LIIFE is the premiere filmmaker community on Long Island sponsored by the Long Island Film/TV Foundation (LIFTF), the County of Nassau and the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency which shows over 160 short and feature-length films of every genre. This year, the 23rd Annual LIIFE will be held from July 10 – 16, 2020 and will include local and foreign film screenings, celebrity appearances, entertaining and informative panels, a star-studded awards ceremony, Q & A with filmmakers from the world over and networking galore. Decorated Actress Katherine Narducci (The Sopranos), Emmy Award winning News Anchor Maurice Dubois (CBS 2 – TV in NYC) and Dynamic Director Jeremiah Kipp (Grave Discoveries) will also be honored for their accomplishments that night.

Festivals of the past have included such luminaries as the late Danny Aiello, Ed Asner, Blue Bloods’ Robert Clohessy and Abigail Hawk, Ralph Macchio, John Amos, Ally Sheedy, 30 Rock’s Kevin Brown, Cathy Moriarty, Steve Buscemi, Ed Burns, William Sadler, Ilene Kristen, and so many more.

Melissa Skirboll is an award-winning director, writer, actor and producer – for both screen and stage. Her film “My Dinner With Schwartzey”  (which screened at LIIFE in 2019 and won best cinematography and best editing here) premiered at the Bermuda International Film Fest in March 2019 and has since won Best Dramedy at the Manhattan Film Fest, Best Dramedy and Best Director at the NYC TV Fest, Best Director at Brightside Tavern Film Festival, Best Cinematography and Editing at the Long Island International Film Expo, Best Film and DP at DMOFF, and Best Actress at the EHTVFest. This past October, Melissa was also awarded the FILMMAKER OF THE YEAR 2019 at the Vasteras Film Festival in Sweden.

Her work in theater has been recognized with a number of nominations and awards. Her short play Battered Fedora has been chosen for pruduction at the 2020 Estrogenius Festival. She’s won outstanding playwright for Blizzard: A Love Story; outstanding direction The Closet by Amy Gray Piper; nominated for acting in Blizzard: A Love Story, for direction on both Superstars by Glory Kadigan and Straight-Faced Lies by Mark Jason Williams, and for projections/SFX on A Madness of One Acts. 

She is a member of New York Madness, a director for the Women’s Work Play Lab at New Perspectives Theatre and has directed for various companies including Nylon Fusion Theater Co, Urban Stages, Abingdon Theatre and Estrogenius Festival. Ego Actus, Abingdon Theatre, and Urban Stages have staged her plays here in New York. Skirboll is a proud member of NYWIFT and SAG/AFTRA. She’s a member of the Brazen Giant Artists Ensemble, NY Madness, and New Perspectives New Play Lab. Melissa also teaches acting for the Sande Shurin Acting Studio and works with individuals as a private coach.
